Masterable Versus Ongoing Lessons

In Transparent Classroom, we have two types of lessons – Masterable and Ongoing. In this article we will explore:

Masterable versus Ongoing Lessons

The important difference between Masterable and Ongoing lessons is that they have different default proficiency scales. The default levels of progress for Masterable lessons are, Introduced, Practiced, Mastered, and Needs More. For Ongoing lessons, it's and Introduced, Practiced, and Needs More.

On the Progress & Plan page, you can easily see what type a lesson is from the icon to the right of the lesson name. Masterable lessons are marked with an arrow icon

while Ongoing lessons are marked with an infinity icon

Customizing Proficiency Scales Between Lesson Types

Transparent Classroom comes with a set of default proficiencies; however, you can customize your scales with up to six different levels and colors. Since the scale that you use is determined by the type of lesson, you can choose to customize your scales so they are the same or different.

Anyone with admin access can customize the proficiency scales for your school by going to [Admin] > [Lesson Sets] > click on [Settings] for the lesson set you would like to customize > check the box next to "Customize Scales" > modify the levels of progress > [Save]. For more information about customizing scales, you can visit this article: Customizing Lesson Scales

Setting and Modifying Lesson Types

To modify a lesson's type you can go to [Lessons] > find the lesson you would like to modify > click on the lesson name > click on the drop-down menu in the lower left of the lesson editor > select the type > [Save].

If you create a new lesson in your lesson set, the lesson type will default to "Masterable" but you can always modify it.
