But then nothing happens… 😬

If your email program doesn't open right away, you might need to do some setup.

Below are instructions on using Gmail or Outlook from Chrome. If this doesn't get you up and working, feel free to contact us.

Using Gmail on Chrome

Copy this link to your address bar and choose your email client from the list:

chrome://settings/handlers

If it says "email" is handled by "mail.google.com", then you should be all set.

If not, some additional setup is required:

  • Make sure "Allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols" is checked
  • Make sure "mail.google.com" is not under [Blocked]. If it is, remove it.

  • Then, go to mail.google.com and you should get a popup window to allow Gmail to handle emails.

If it doesn't show a popup, check to see if there's a double diamond icon in the right side of the URL address bar. If there's one there, click it to open the popup.

Using Outlook from Chrome

If you use Outlook on a Windows machine, it's easy to use from a Chrome browser – other browsers may work similarly.

The first time you try to email a parent, it will ask you which email program to use. After that, it will remember your choice.

If you try to email many parents, Outlook will sometimes not open. In this case, you can manually copy all the emails shown to you into Outlook.
